"I Need Your Love" Inspired GoPro Mount

I've been into videography ever since first shooting a documentary on DC public schools back in high school for a project in my video production class. I fell in love with being able to tell a story or being able to put together a collection of memories that really move people. Throughout college I didn't really mess with video production as much as I had wished and finally Lindsey finally put me back on the path of my hobby by giving me a new GoPro HERO 3 this past Christmas. I've been having a blast with the camera up until this point just messing around with it and putting the camera on and making movies from the dog, riding through the woods on the four wheeler and while going down the mountain skiing.

I'm constantly looking for new ideas of what to do with my GoPro for this summer and a few weeks ago Lindsey told me to check out the music video for the new Calvin Harris song "I Need Your Love" because she loved the way the video was shot. Check out the video Linds was talking about here. After watching the video, I knew we could definitely shoot some of the same "selfie" angles with the right mount for the GoPro, but I wanted to make it myself. So, I decided to make a homemade mount that we would be able to take in the water with us if we wanted to. The mount I wanted to make was a pole that would have the GoPro mounted on the end of it. All you really need are a few supplies from a local hardware store. Here's what I used: 2' PVC pipes (2), end cap (2), 45 degree angle, PVC cement, epoxy glue for water, lime green spray paint and the GoPro tripod mount.

Since I knew we would be using the mount out on the water, I wanted a mount that we be able to float in case we dropped it which is why I went with the PVC pipe. And, the whole mount itself is spray painted lime green so that if it's out floating on the water, hopefully it will be easy to find! As you can see from the image on the right, the finished mount let's you hold the GoPro steady points towards yourself or away. In total, all the supplies cost me roughly $20.00 and it took no longer than 2 hours to make!

Here's another mount that I made a few months ago when I first got the camera that I made out of a $2.99 kitchen timer from Walmart and some scrap wood around the house. One of my favorite shots to take are timelapses and what this mount let's you do is rotating timelapses! We tested this one out when we took a random road trip to Wrightsville Beach, NC a month ago. Check out the video here!

Anyways, that's all for today and hopefully a lot more GoPro videos will be made in the future!
